Today, we will call the new year by singing this time-honoured song of Rabindranath Tagore, ‘Come, O Boishakh, come, come/wipe away the filth, let the filth go away / be cleansed in the fire bath’. At the same time, the month of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims, has started. I congratulate all devout Muslims on the holy month of Ramadan.

To all the martyrs of that night including my uncle freedom fighter Sheikh Abu Nasser.
