Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished everyone a Happy Ramadan and a Happy New Year


Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “I would like to convey my sincere wishes for the year 1428 BS to everyone wherever you are in the country and abroad. Happy new year Today is the day of invocation.

Today, we will call the new year by singing this time-honoured song of Rabindranath Tagore, ‘Come, O Boishakh, come, come/wipe away the filth, let the filth go away / be cleansed in the fire bath’. At the same time, the month of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims, has started. I congratulate all devout Muslims on the holy month of Ramadan.

He said this while addressing the nation on Tuesday evening.

The Prime Minister said, “On the auspicious occasion of the New Year, I remember with deep respect the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

I pay my respects to the four national leaders. I am remembering 3 million martyrs and 2 lakh tortured mothers and sisters of the liberation war. I pay homage to all the heroic freedom fighters.

He recalled that my mother Begum Fazilatun Nesha Mujib, three brothers – freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal, freedom fighter Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal and ten-year-old Sheikh Russell – Kamal and Jamal’s newlyweds – Sultana Kamal and Rosie were killed by the assassins on August 15, 1975. To all the martyrs of that night including my uncle freedom fighter Sheikh Abu Nasser.

“We’ve been in the coronavirus epidemic for more than a year,” he said. Coronavirus was first identified in our country in the first week of March last year.

Various fears and anxieties engulfed us. We have to survive by dealing with them. In the meantime, we have lost many of our loved ones in the clutches of coronavirus.

I wish forgiveness of all souls and peace of soul. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
